Our Story
It started on a flag football field.
When my daughter began playing travel flag football, we were immediately struck by the talent, the tenacity, and the heart of the young athletes around her. These girls were fast, fierce, and hungry to compete — and it was clear that many of them had the potential to go far in the sport.
But we also saw something that was hard to ignore. Some of the most gifted players on the field were facing a challenge that had nothing to do with athleticism — the cost of participation. Travel flag football comes with real expenses: league fees, uniforms, equipment, and the miles logged getting from game to game. For some families, those costs were simply out of reach.
We couldn't walk away from that.
The more we got to know these athletes and their families, the more certain we became: financial barriers should never be the reason a talented girl has to sit on the sidelines. Every young woman who wants to play deserves the chance to compete, to grow, and to discover what she's capable of on that field.
That conviction is what led us to found She Plays Flag Texas in December 2024 — a 501(c)(3) nonprofit built on the belief that every Texas girl, regardless of her family's financial situation, deserves access to the game. With flag football set to make its Olympic debut in 2028, the opportunities ahead for young female athletes have never been greater. We're here to make sure no girl misses out on what could be the opportunity of a lifetime.
She Plays Flag Texas isn't just a charity. It's a community — built by parents, coaches, and advocates who believe in the power of sport to shape a young woman's future. We are proud to stand alongside these athletes and their families, and we are just getting started.
